Since they are children, they will have the tendency to confuse reality from fantasy. Mostly the fantasy is not very pleasing which leads to anxiety and panic attacks that hunt them nightly.

At night, panic attack in children is common. This seems natural because some children are afraid of the dark. More often, panic attack will hit the child after he woke up from a nightmare. While the child is having a nightmare, his stress level is already fluctuating significantly. When he woke up and found himself alone in the darkness, he will burst into tears. This means that the child is having a panic attack.

The best option for your child is to let him decides if he can sleep alone at night. At a young age, he is still very vulnerable to fears. If you left him alone, he may develop a phobia which will hunt him for the rest of his life. The possible fears he may have are fear of darkness, fear of aloneness, and even fear of sleeping. For your child, turn on the lights. This will help him sleep more comfortably at night.

In addition, don’t let your child eat unhealthy foods. These foods do not contain enough essential nutrients to make his brain function properly. Give him only the best and assure that the foods he eats are highly nutritious. Also, keep in mind that there are foods that should be avoided before sleeping. These foods are heavy for the tummy and some people believe that they might cause nightmares.

You might also stop teasing your child and telling him ghost stories. You won’t know what is running through his brain. There is a high probability that he will think that ghosts and monsters are real.

If the panic attack keeps on affecting the sleeping habit of the child, it is best to consult a medical professional immediately. The cause of the panic attack might be something more.
