LifeScan One Touch UltraSmart
The One Touch UltraSmart System Kit – This electronic blood glucose testing device works as follows:
You lance your finger or another site to draw a drop of blood. For this you will need a package of lancets. Then you take a blood glucose testing strip and absorb that blood into the strip. Finally, you insert the glucose test strip into this machine – the One Touch UltraSmart system, and it reads the glucose levels in the blood sample, and records them into its digital log book. The One Touch system records 50 entries so you can go back and review your blood sugar levels and spot trends.
The LifeScan One Touch UltraSmart System
The OneTouch Ultrasmart System is popular because it requires only a small amount of blood. That means you can use a shallower prick to draw blood, and you can draw the blood from your arm, rather than your sensitive finger tips. It also records the results quickly – it only takes five seconds for the meter to read the glucose levels in your blood. Plus – you don’t have to track or chart your blood sugar levels yourself, you don’t even have to write them down. Your system records them for you to review at a later time.
How Can You Improve Your Health While Managing Type 2 Diabetes?
If you have Type Two Diabetes, you may be frustrated or worried about the impact this disease can have on your health. One of the best ways to stay healthy is to keep your blood sugar levels within safe bounds – this means eating a good diet, participating in regular exercise, and testing your blood sugar levels frequently with glucose test strips, like those from OneTouch.
I think that the “diet” portion of health maintenance for people with Type 2 diabetes is not clearly understood or explained by doctors and nutritionists. I was reading a very interesting book – I found it both alarming and exciting – about the repercussions of diet on our long term health, including the progression of diseases and disorders like Type 2 Diabetes. The book – The China Study – was written by a Cornell professor and shared the incredible impact that eating a simple, low-cost plant-foods based diet could have on slowing or reversing the effects of many chronic degenerative diseases, including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. The premise of the book was that eating animal proteins like meat, eggs, and milk might not be as good for us as we all thought. I agree that eating a vegan diet is pretty extreme, but if you’re serious about improving your health, and you have Type 2 Diabetes, I would at least read the book before dismissing its conclusions. There is a lot of science-based evidence to back up the author’s recommendations.
