Taking A First Trip With Your Significant Other
It been a few good months since you and your mate met on an internet dating site and you finally feel like the time has come for you to take your first trip together. You have traveled with your family and you have traveled with your friends.
As a matter of fact, that travelling went so well you figure that your trip as a couple should be a piece of cake. With icing and sugar on top. And you’re probably right, but you do need to remember that not everyone travels like you do. We all have different expectations, so here are a few things you might want to consider before heading to the travel agent.
You need to talk about where you’ll travel to. Some of us (myself included) want nothing more than a beach and a comfortable beach chair beside the ocean. Others want to take in the sun on the ski hill. Whatever your preference, make sure you and your sweetie agree on your destination. Compromise may be the order of the day.
You need to decide when to take your trip. Will you go for a last minute deal and leave next week? Or are you more of a planner and would prefer going next month or even a two or three months from now? Chances are each of you will have different ideas about timing.
What is the length of your vacation going to be? One week, two weeks, longer? You may not have the same amount of time off, so talk to each other about this rather than making assumptions. If you or your partner has recently started a new job you’re likely not eligible for a vacation. Can you really afford to take unpaid time away from your job?
Once you have these details ironed out you need to compare vacation styles. Some want nothing more than to relax while on vacation. After all, they reason, that’s what a vacation is for; relaxing. Others want to hit every single site and tourist attraction within a hundred mile radius.
Totally contrasting vacation styles can be very frustrating. Without some kind of plan, you’re sure to clash. If this sounds like you and your partner, you’ll have to compromise to ensure that you each get in some of the things that are important to you. Don’t forget, you don’t need to spend every minute of your vacation together.
If both people agree to take turns doing things they enjoy, the trip can be satisfying to both parties involved. Traveling together for the first time is meant to be a fun way to learn more about one another and the best way to insure its success is to talk about it as much as possible before boarding the plane.
